Contact Lens Exam At Resident Eye Care Assoc.

At Resident Eye Care Associates we have a wide variety of contact lens patients, from children to seniors. We offer contact lenses to people who were previously told they weren’t a good fit for lenses, can fit you with lenses that help to change your eyesight, and can even give you fun lenses that change the color of your eyes. Because all contact lenses are medical devices, you need an eye examination before getting a prescription for your lenses, and it should be a specialized type of exam.

What is a Contact Lens Exam?

A comprehensive eye examination will check your visual acuity as well as the health of your eyes. But other than finding out the prescription you need to correct your vision, this isn’t any help if you want to get contact lenses. After the traditional eye examination, you’ll need an additional contact lens exam.

It begins with a consultation about your lifestyle and thoughts about contacts. During this conversation, you and the optometrist will agree on what type of contact lenses are right for you. After that, he’ll measure your eyes to make sure your new lenses will be a good fit. Our optometrist will measure the length and height of your eyeball, as well as the curvature of the front of your eyes. This will ensure that your lenses will fit perfectly against your eye, giving you a clear field of vision.

Types of Contact Lenses

We offer a surprisingly large variety of contact lenses for our patients. Part of the contact lens examination is deciding which type of lens is best for your vision needs and lifestyle. A few of the more common ones we offer to include:

  • Disposable soft lenses, which are meant to be thrown away at the end of the day
  • Daily wear lenses, which should be removed and cleaned each night
  • Extended wear contacts, which you wear 24/7 for weeks at a time
  • Toric lenses for patients with astigmatism
  • Bifocal and multifocal lenses for patients with multiple prescriptions
  • Colored contact lenses, which can enhance or change the color of your eyes. These can even be made for people with perfect vision

We also offer a variety of specialty lenses, such as scleral lenses, for patients with physical reasons why they previously couldn’t wear contacts.

Patients with mild to moderate refractive errors in their eyesight can have it corrected by wearing Ortho-K lenses while they sleep. The results generally last one to two days.
